A Historic Buffalo
Landmark Reimagined

Built around 1865 in the Italianate commercial style, the Buffalo Palace at 140 Seneca Street was once a vibrant saloon and lodging house, playing a key role in Buffalo’s nightlife. Opened in 1889 by Albert Ey, it featured a bar, bowling alleys, and upper-floor rooms for travelers. Despite strict Sunday closing laws, it famously remained open, hosting lively gatherings with music, dancing, and card games. Following Ey’s passing in 1890, his wife managed the establishment until 1895. Flash forward to today, this historic building is being thoughtfully transformed into Buffalo Palace Apartments, a collection of modern residences set to open in 2025. Combining historic charm with contemporary living, the revitalized space will offer premium amenities while preserving the legacy of one of Buffalo’s most iconic structures.
